What IS AYM?

A Unique Approach to Bodywork

Ayurvedic Yoga Massage (AYM) Therapy - Kusum Modak Method is a therapeutic bodywork modality that brings together the best of Ayurveda and Yoga. It was developed by Master Kusum Modak of Pune, India after many years of study of both Ayurvedic Massage and Iyengar Yoga.

Combining elements of deep tissue massage, Yoga-based assisted stretches, and coordinated breath-work, this unique treatment helps dissolve physical and emotional blocks in the body, promotes correct posture, improves respiratory patterns, enhances energy levels, and leaves the receiver with a profound sense of openness and well-being on a physical, psychological, and emotional level.

This is a tailor-made massage treatment where massage techniques, mobilisations, tractions, and yoga-based stretches are offered according to the receiver’s individual needs.

THE PROCESS

The treatment is performed on a futon on the floor. This allows for a complete range of movement while performing stretches.

Organic cold pressed Sesame Oil, mixed with the Ayurvedic herb called Vacha (Acorus Calamus) is used for the massage. Calamus has warming properties that improve blood circulation and warm up the muscles. Using slow, deep, and strong strokes, massage is performed using both the hands and the feet and the receiver’s body is prepared for assisted yoga stretching. The utilisation of the feet in particular allows for deeper and more thorough pressure and supports the release of deep seated tension.

Through synchronised breathing, the receiver is led progressively deeper into assisted yoga stretches. These stretches help to realign the body and correct postural imbalances. The whole massage is incredibly effective at restore harmony to the subtle energies of the body.
