Kizhi - Herbal Poultice Massage
Kizhi, also known as Pinda Sweda or Herbal Poultice massage is one of the speciality treatments of Ayurveda, originating and widely practiced in Kerala and revered for its therapeutic effects. Massage is performed using heated herbal poultices to rejuvenate, relax and nourish the body.
TYPES
There are different types of herbal poultice massages. Where poultices are filled with medicated powders, the treatment is called Podi kizhi. Where poultices are filled with medicated rice, the treatment is called Navara kizhi and when medicinal leaves are used for making the poultices, it is called Ela kizhi. This treatment can be done for healthy people as well as the diseased. It improves muscle strength and skin complexion, strengthens the nerves and nourishes the bones. It is revered for rejuvenation as it slows down the ageing process.
