Health Is More Than a Diagnosis. Your Care Should Be Too.

01 | INTRODUCTION

Your Health Is More Than a Diagnosis. Your Care Should Be Too.

I'm Akanksha, a UK-based Ayurvedic Consultant. For the last eight years, I've helped hundreds of clients experiencing digestive problems, persistent pain, hormonal imbalances, stress and other chronic health concerns improve their health through Ayurveda. Born with congenital fused lumbar vertebrae, I spent many years living with chronic pain. Through Ayurveda and Ashtanga Yoga, I found an approach that transformed my health and continues to support me in living a healthy, active and pain-free life.

I combine years of extensive study, clinical practice and lived experience to support every person who comes to see me. If you're looking for care that treats the whole person, not just the diagnosis, you're in the right place.

Beyond Symptoms

Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest medical systems, originating in India over 5,000 years ago. It takes a natural and holistic approach to physical, mental, and emotional health, recognising that health is influenced by internal balance, lifestyle, and interaction with the environment.

Rather than focusing on temporary symptom relief, Ayurveda takes a broader approach. It examines the day-to-day lifestyle, habits, and choices that may be disrupting the body’s natural equilibrium, while also looking beyond the affected area and considering all bodily functions, including digestive health, sleep, skin, as well as mental and emotional health, to help bring the body back into balance as a whole.

It is through this comprehensive approach that addresses the underlying causes and treats the whole being, that Ayurveda delivers sustainable improvements in long-term health.

The Healing Trifecta of Ayurveda

DID YOU KNOW

Ayurveda & Yoga are Sister Sciences

Ancient Indian texts, the Vedas, emphasise that yoga and Ayurveda should always be practiced together for optimal health and vitality. Doing so allows for a more tailored and complete approach to health. Ayurveda offers insights into your unique constitution (Prakriti) and imbalances (Vikriti), helping to shape your yoga practice and daily routines to suit your specific needs. For example, certain yoga postures or breathing techniques may be recommended to balance a particular dosha, or Ayurvedic herbs may support elimination of accumulated toxins which may improve the person’s ability to do yoga.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga vinyasa yoga is a dynamic, flowing and acrobatic form of yoga with a strong breathing system at its core. The practice consists of a series of postures (asana) linked together by a specific sequence of movements known as vinyasa, building heat and intensifying as the session deepens. Each movement is synchronised with the breath, creating a meditative and flowing practice. Having practiced Ashtanga now for over 14 years, I am a firm believer in its healing and transormational power. For if it because of this healing practice that I have avoided spinal surgery. My next beginner's Ashtanga course is due to begin in Spring 2025. If you curious about it, it will be my privilage and honor to teach and guide you through this life changing practice.

Ayurvedic Consultations

Whether you're looking to address specific health concerns or simply optimise your overall health, I offer a range of Ayurvedic consultations designed to support your health goals. The full in-depth Ayurvedic consultation focuses on disease alleviation by addressing the root causes of imbalance, not just the symptoms. Harnessing Ayurveda's powerful trifecta, food as medicine, herbal supplements, and lifestyle practices, we work together to alleviate disease, restore balance in your body and mind and establish lasting sustainable health. Additionally, I offer shorter, exploratory consultations including body type (dosha) assessment and nutritional assessment, that help you align your diet and lifestyle with your constitution for optimal well-being.

Ayurvedic Treatments

Traditional Ayurvedic treatments allow deep cleansing and healing, providing lasting results of strength, peace, and equanimity. Along with alleviating physical issues, these serene treatments correct imbalances at the mental, emotional, and spiritual levels. My treatments incorporate herbal oils, soothing massage techniques, and specific therapies such as Shirodhara, Abhyanga and Vasti, which work to detoxify, rejuvenate, and deeply relax the body. Alongside traditional Ayurvedic oil based treatments, I also proudly offer Ayurvedic Yoga Massage - a deep tissue treatment that brings together the best of Ayurveda and Yoga combining elements of deep tissue massage, Yoga-based assisted stretching, and coordinated breath-work into one sensational treatment.

Panchakarma Therapy

Ayurvedic treatments are classified into two basic treatments; Shamana (pacification of vitiated doshas) and Shodhana (removal of vitiated doshas). There are five (pancha) shodhana karmas; vamama (emesis), virechana (purgation), vasti or basti (medicated enema); Nasya (delivery of medication through the nasal route), rakta mokshana (bloodletting). While some milder shodhana therapies can be carried in the UK at your home under my guidance and care, some patients may require a thorough shodhana of one or more of the shodhana treatments in a hospital setting. My clinic has therefore arranged a partnership with a specialist panchakarma centre in India who practice Panchabhoutik Chikitsa. This partnership is to ensure treatment protocols used in the UK and in India have a consistent approach. This is to ensure benefits of Panchakarma in India are endured and maintained.

Yoga Therapy

Yoga and Ayurveda have the same philosophical base. While Ayurveda Treatments fall under the category or “dravya” chikitsa (treatment with food, herbs and herbo minerals); Yoga is considered “adravya” chikitsa (treatment without any herbs etc). Yoga has been practiced for maintaining perfect health and wellbeing, as well as a therapy to treat a broad variety of ailments and conditions. To benefit from the therapeutic effects of Yoga, its practices must synchronize the movement with your breathing. This requires personal guidance, support, and training. Yoga as therapy uses the adaptation of asanas, pranayama, bandha, mudras, mantras and meditation per your individual constitution, state of health, physical ability, and energy levels. As a Yoga Teacher and a Therapist, I tailor and teach constitutionally suitable yoga practices, so as to help you integrate them into your daily routine. This triggers healing, resulting in optimum health with calmness, to face the stresses and strains of modern living.

The Sister Sciences - Ayurveda & Yoga

Yoga and Ayurveda are often referred to as sister sciences, as they share a deep, intertwined relationship in promoting holistic well-being. Both originate from ancient India and are rooted in the understanding that health is not just the absence of disease, but a state of harmony between body, mind, and spirit.

While yoga focuses on physical postures, breath control, and meditation to cultivate balance and self-awareness, Ayurveda complements this practice by providing personalized guidance on diet, herbs, and lifestyle to maintain health and prevent illness. Together, they create a powerful synergy that addresses both the physical and subtle aspects of our being, fostering true wellness on all levels.

Over 5,000 years old, the most tried and tested system of medicine in the world, also known as the 'Mother of all Healing'.

Preventative

Health is a state of balance within the body, mind, and spirit. With prevention as one of its cornerstones, Ayurveda provides tools to maintain harmony and balance. Rather than waiting for disease to manifest, illness can be actively prevented through daily and seasonal Ayurvedic practices, food as medicine, and yogic and meditation practices.

Curative

Equally potent in curing diseases once they arise, Ayurveda tackles the root cause of illness and delivers long-term health rather than short-term symptom relief. The difference between trimming a tree and pruning a tree.

One Size DOES NOT Fit All

Each person is unique, with distinct body-mind constitutions,  resulting from factors such as genetics, lifestyle, environment, and emotional state. Ayurvedic treatments are tailored to an individual’s specific needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
Through this unique and empowering approach, individuals learn how to take control of their health and maintain wellness throughout their lives.

Food As Medicine

When we know how to eat correctly for our body, mind, and entire being – we thrive.

Bring the healing power of Ayurveda into your kitchen. Advice is tailored to each person and is sensitive to culture and preferences.

Herbal Supplements

Discover the healing gifts of plants with Ayurvedic herbal medicine.  Ayurvedic herbal protocols include 100% natural, safe and sustainably sourced herbal supplements. They are gentle, simple and easy to weave into your daily life include. We use traditional Ayurvedic supplements prepared using classical formulations prescribed in ancient Ayurvedic texts.

Lifestyle Practices

Daily and seasonal Ayurvedic lifestyle practices support continual, whole-body healing day-to-day. Small tweaks and introduction to simple Ayurvedic practices to your daily routine can have a monumental impact in allowing the body and mind to heal deeply.

Tune into your deepest self and cultivate inner peace as you are guided in the ancient techniques of meditation, breathwork, mantra, mudra, and yog-asana.
